Margin Trading Facility is one of those products that sounds like homework. Explaining leverage to a retail investor usually needs a whiteboard, and whiteboards don’t sell. So we went looking for a version of the same idea that every Indian already knows by heart, and found it painted on the wall of the neighbourhood kirana store: Aaj Nagad, Kal Udhaar.
That one line does the explaining for you. Take what you need today, settle later, on trust — the shopkeeper’s oldest arrangement, and close enough to what MTF actually offers. The film builds on it with “kismat ke badalne ka wait nahi… sahi investment sahi jagah”, keeping the register of a shop counter rather than a trading floor. Thirty seconds, written, shot and cut in-house at TSBI Studios.
Framing credit as udhaar instead of leverage moved MTF out of the brokerage jargon it usually lives in and into a conversation people have every week. For a BFSI product most retail investors scroll straight past, being recognisable turned out to be worth more than being explained.
